By virtue of being an over-enthusiastic fanboy, I got in line with my friends a full hour before the doors opened to Emerson Suites for the April 12th Streetlight Manifesto concert. My overzealous nature was rewarded when we were able to grab spots front and center, hanging onto the guardrail between the stage and the standing room.

It was Feb. 13th, and excited concertgoers were gathering inside the State Theatre to see their one true love: Jeff Mangum. Mangum initially achieved fame the frontman of indie rock band Neutral Milk Hotel, which broke up in 1999. What was so incredibly special about this performance was that this year marked the first time Jeff’s been on tour, playing Neutral Milk Hotel songs since 2001.

Concert Review: Starslinger feat. Shlohmo and Shigeto
by Zachary Anderson November 14, 2011This past Halloween weekend’s Electronic Dance Party concert, held at Ithaca College’s Emerson Suites, was the perfect avenue to introduce me to the radical, shape-shifting sounds of three of electronic music’s current practitioners: Manchester producer/DJ Starslinger, and opening acts Shlohmo and Shigeto.

The sound is unlike most. There are waves of emotion present in each stanza and the technology used almost feels as though it is punishing Stewart, as it heightens and goes into a frenzy against Stewarts vocals. This is an experimental band that not only pushes the boundaries of musical rules, but pushes the boundaries of what audiences are subjected to.
