It's important to note that this article actually doesn't have any factual errors. At the time of its publication in November 2009, Brett Matlack was a member of the Oracle Society and of Sigma Iota Epsilon. This piece doesn't glamorize Brett's life as something one should strive for, and her piece doesn't insinuate that Brett's actions are representative of business majors in general. It's strictly a portrait of a college-aged workaholic.

Just want to be clear that the information conveyed in this piece is accurate, and it's a good piece of interesting, narrative journalism. For other examples of great journalism, see Emily Miles' piece on fracking, Pete Blanchard's piece "An Exchange Program," and Jacquie Simone's piece on overseas military bases.

Brett was inducted into the Oracle Society in the Fall of 2009.

This article was not written to reflect the values of IC's School of Business.

I completely agree with the anonymous comment above! The Park School needs to work on their investigative research abilities and learn that publishing false information comes at a price, especially when the school hosts the journalism major. Brett seems like he has given up any form of social contact with the outside world in order to achieve an "A." Also, Brett mentioned that he is proudly a member of Sigma Iota Epsilon, a management honor society that no longer exists due to poor management... how ironic.

It is important to note that there is nothing true in this article.

According to my research in order to be in the top 10% of your class you need to satisfy the following requirements:

Be a member of Beta Alpha Psi, be a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, be a member of the Oracle Society.. as you imagine, the list goes on.

In our research we have found that Brett does not satisfy all three, if any of the criteria.

Brett's distortion of what "success" is, is drastically off-base from the values and core principles espoused by Ithaca College's School of Business.

As a group we expect better investigative journalism from the Park School of Communications.
